Ingredients

  • 1 package puff pastry
  • 1 cup grated parmesan
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter, slightly chilled
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons thyme, finely chopped
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • A few pinches of cayenne pepper, optional

Preparation

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F.
  2. With a rolling pin, roll out puff pastry on a lightly floured surface to about 1/8-inch (3mm) thick, forming a rectangle roughly 18 x 12-inches (46 x 30 cm).
  3. Cut puff pastry evenly into two rectangles.
  4. Brush rectangles generously with melted butter.
  5. Sprinkle parmesan, garlic, thyme, and spices onto one rectangle. Season with salt and pepper.
  6. Cover with the second rectangle (buttered side down), pressing to seal together.
  7. Cut puff pastry into strips about ½-inch wide (3 cm), and transfer to baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Twist strips to form spirals, pressing ends into parchment paper to keep in place.
  9. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until straws are golden and crispy.
